This is a 5-week devotional series. Each Saturday, we will be posting a short and focused article. Read for a morning devotional by yourself or with a group! Discussion questions can be found at the end.
The world is scary. People are constantly exercising evil. Sickness fills homes. Families are distant.
Yet, hope is waiting to be found.
Scripture talks extensively on the topic of worry. In fact, the book of Psalms is one of the best places to look for comfort.
David had every excuse to be afraid.
First, he fought a giant of the enemy army, someone even the strongest warriors were scared of. Later, David had to run for his very life because the King sought to kill him!
While it appears David would have the right to sulk in his fear, the Psalms are filled with words of trust in God.
“In the multitudes of my anxieties within me, Your comforts delight my soul.”Psalm 94:19 New King James Version
Psalm 94:19 is a wonderful example of this. It tells us that, even though David had anxieties in his heart, the comfort and peace of God not only comforted him, but delighted him!
When the evil and distress of this seems to overwhelm our very souls, let us not forget that comfort is found in the hand of God.
His words have the power to fill us with joy in the midst of fear!
- What is one thing in your life that causes fear?
- How can you choose to delight in the Lord in the midst of anxiety?
